How long does it take to record a song?

Generally speaking, session lengths can vary based on the performers’ level of experience and the number of instruments. One track typically takes 1-2 hours, meaning 1-2 hours for guitar, 1-2 hours for lead vocals, 1-2 hours for drums, etc. So a typical five-piece band will spend 5 – 10 hours recording one song or approximately 1 day in the studio.

Do you require a deposit?

I generally require a 25% deposit when booking sessions.

Where are you located?

We work out of 2 different studios in the Phoenix, AZ area.

Do you have instruments and/or equipment available for rent?

Yes. Guitars, basses, amps, drums, cymbals, etc.

What are the hidden costs of recording?

Strings, drum heads, a Hard Drive for storing session files, instrument rental, food expenses, transportation and any hotel costs.

What is the difference between a demo and a record?

A demo is a relatively simple recording intended to demonstrate the song or artist's ability. A record is intended for commercial release, and features the best possible performances and production, with all the bells and whistles.

What is producing?/ What does a record producer do?

A record producer is an individual whose job is to oversee and manage the recording (i.e. "production") of an artist's music. A producer has many roles that may include, but are not limited to, gathering ideas for the project, selecting songs and/or musicians, coaching the artist and musicians in the studio, controlling the recording sessions, and supervising the entire process through Mixing and Mastering. Producers also often take on a wider entrepreneurial role, with responsibility for the budget, schedules, and negotiations.

What is Tracking?

Multitrack recording (also known as multi-tracking or just tracking for short) is a method of sound recording that allows for the separate recording of multiple sound sources to create a cohesive whole. Multi-tracking became possible with the idea of simultaneously recording different audio channels to separate discrete "tracks" on the same tape or digital recording software —a "track" is simply a different channel recorded to its own discrete area on tape/software whereby their relative sequence of recorded events would be preserved, and playback would be simultaneous or synchronized.

What is Mixing?

Mixing is the second stage in the recording process, which comes after the tracking has completed. In a basic sense, mixing isn't that hard to understand. Mixing involves blending all of your separate tracks into one stereo pair suitable for listening to on any radio, Walkman, iPod, or car stereo. Mixing also involves adding effects to polish up the sound. For a more detailed description, follow this link: http://studiopros.com/music-mixing

What is Mastering?

Mastering is the process of preparing and transferring recorded audio from a source containing the final mix to a data storage device (the master); the source from which all copies will be produced (via methods such as pressing, duplication or replication).  Mastering requires critical listening. It brings the final mixes up to an industry standard volume/loudness and may require corrective equalization and dynamic enhancement in order to optimize sound translation on all playback systems.
